The Fourth Annual Report of the Institute for the Study of Advanced Musical Research

2011 was a busy year for the Institute for the Study of Advanced Musical Research. Continuing research directions included advanced musical research into human resources management, labour relations, manufacturing, steel production, military aviation, and nuclear testing. New research for 2011 included investigations of fuzzy animals and children. A textual cut-up technique was was applied to artist statements representing the state of the art in both improvisation and composition in contemporary practice. Montage was employed in applications that were found to be simultaneously ironic and non-ironic. The fourth Annual Report was produced with the help of the travesty generator found at Ben Johnson’s web site, the Online Encyclopedia of Integer Sequences, and 2011 recordings by Scarlioni’s Angle and the Solo Piano Unit Control Unit Unit, as well as an unreleased live solo piano recording from Vancouver Noisefest (Sept 2011) and audio sketches for prepared piano and midi piano.
